County FM Roads Face State Funded Facelift in 1978 Plan

The Texas Highway and Public Transportation Commission approved a 1978 Special Rehabilitation program funded by the 65th Legislature. In Collin County, 1.6 miles of FM 544 through Plano will be rebuilt with curb reconstruction and resurfacing. Over 80 miles of farm-to-market and state highway work are planned in the county, overseen by James Huffman. Nationwide, about 6,900 miles will be improved at an estimated $222.56 million, with $4.3 million for later assignment.

Free Immunization Clinic Set At Plano Headquarters

An immunization clinic for children from two months to 18 years will be held Monday from 9 a.m. to noon at the Collin County Democratic Headquarters in Plano. The free service, sponsored by the Texas Dept. of Health Resources and run by the Plano City Health Dept., offers DTP polio measles and rubella vaccines. Parents must accompany preschool children. The clinic meets every third Monday in Plano and aims to protect children from serious diseases.

Twin Probes Travel To Jupiter Saturn

NASA announces two Voyager missions to explore Jupiter and Saturn with orbiting probes and cameras. Launch windows are Aug 2 and Sept 1 from Cape Canaveral, with later flybys of Saturn and potential visits to Uranus and Neptune. Each mission spans years, targeting inner Jovian satellites and Saturn’s rings for first close-up images. Voyager 1 approaches Jupiter in 1979 and Saturn in 1980, Voyager 2 later in 1979 and 1981 respectively.

Turtles Split After Niagara Honeymoon Ends

Offshore port funding clears as construction to start

Gov Edwin Edwards and Bill Read announce the final signing of a federal construction license for the Louisiana Offshore Oil Port. Death ruled self-inflicted in Kennish case

Police say John Ted Kennish, 39, of 1620 Amhurst, died by his own action after being found by his wife Shirley. He was shot with a 22-caliber rifle. Police also reported multiple arrests for theft, trespass, evading arrest, disorderly conduct, and warrants. Department responded to 64 calls, with four thefts, two motor vehicle burglaries, and three criminal mischief cases.
