West End Boys Make Trench Candles for Uncle Sam
Rutherford Dalley and four West End boys form a trench candle club aiding the Red Cross effort. They wrap newspaper columns in paraffin to create candles that burn for an hour or more, supplying light and heat for soldiers in Europe. They collect paraffin house to house, and have produced nearly 100 candles in two weeks, with more branches expected to handle growing memberships.
