The A O H Division No 4 Masquerade at MT 4B Hall Wednesday night awarded first prize to a Uncle Sam costume. John Harrington and three others won prizes for ladies. Plainfielders Honored With Promotions At Camp Dix

Nine men from the 311th Infantry at Camp Dix promoted from private to corporal for general proficiency since entering the cantonment on September 32. Howard J. Armstrong and Herbert Terry of Plainfield are among them. Five others in the division earned corporal warrants and two were made sergeants, none from the city. A new noncommissioned officers school opens at Camp Dix with several Plainfielders enrolled.

John Cory Dies After Ill Health at 84

John Cory owner of the Cory building at Park avenue and Front street died this morning at his home 527 West Front street after a long illness. He was born near Mt Bethel about eighty four years ago and moved to Plainfield as a young man. A carpenter by trade he later retired. Survived by wife two daughters Mrs George Angelman and Margaret Lorey two granddaughters and two great grandsons. Funeral Monday at 2:30 in home with Rev Anderson officiating burial in Hill ude cemetery.

Perseverance Lodge to stage big rally with famous orchestra

Elks Thanksgiving Gathering and War Talk

Plainfield Lodge of Elks held a Thanksgiving gathering with more than 100 attendees. A six act vaudeville program preceded a turkey supper prepared by the house steward, featuring over 100 pounds of fresh gobblers. James Duckett of Denver spoke about frontline ambulance work in France, with Clam Bechtel accompanying. Duckett hoped to return, Bechtel proceeding to Egypt as a flyer but denied due to vision limits. The evening ended with songs and stories, organized by James Hart and others.
