Death Claims Heavy Toll Within Past Week

The community mourns as a week brings three deaths including an infant and two adults. Mrs. Lulu Cannon Wright died at home on School St. from diabetes after a brief illness, leaving a large family and connections across Knox, North Manchester, and Indianapolis. Funeral services were held at the M. E. church with local clergy and a Woman's Bible class pallbearers.

Dixon Oliver E. dies suddenly at 55

Oliver E. Dixon, 55, longtime farmer and active church member, collapsed at noon while at work in the Friends church yard. He had a history of heart trouble and high blood pressure. A short service was held at the home before a later ceremony at the church.

Tragic Siblings News From Local Quarantine Funeral

Rex Wade, 1117 months old, son of Mr and Mrs Rex Jackson, died Tuesday from acute gastritis after lifelong anaemia. He leaves a twin sister Annette Wade and sister Mary Elizabeth 9, quarantined with diphtheria. Funeral Wednesday was private due to the quarantine.

Death of Wim. Shepherd Simmons Near Plainfield

Wim Shepherd Simmons aged 73 died at his home northeast of Plainfield on September 29 after a period of illness the immediate cause being apoplexy. Funeral services were held at the Friends Church and burial was at Maple Hill. He is survived by his widow and six children.

Woman's Club Opens New Year With Program at Library

The Woman's Club observes President's Day with a 2:30 PM meeting at the library. Vir gil L. Prewitt a prominent Martinsville shoe dealer and young business leader killed himself at the Elks club. His body was found in the ladies dressing room by Fred Bridges after a shot fired with Bridges’s revolver. William Shepherd Simmons Obituary Passes at 73

William Shepherd Simmons born April 16 1848 died September 29 1921 aged 73 years 5 months and 13 days. He married Lucinda Pritchett December 31 1871 and fathered eight children. A devout man who loved church music, he was a good neighbor husband and father whose life centered on family and wholesome advice. He died after a steady illness with a calm departure and lasting faith.
