He outlined causes and signs, stressed early recognition and surgery, argued heredity is a tendency not fate, and noted 80 to 95 percent of deaths might be prevented with early treatment.

Rebecca Hayden Douglass 68, widow of Allen Douglass and lifelong Plainfield resident, died of heart trouble Sunday at her son Harry Douglass’s Indianapolis home. Body returned to Plainfield for burial. Funeral by Rev. J. A. Gardner at Maple Hill Cemetery followed by burial. Survived by daughter Carry Brown, son, four grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.
Rebecca Hayden Douglas born September 15 1854 in Morgan County died November 19 at age 68. She was daughter of George and Eliza Hayden sister to Mary Bray Alice Curtis and William Hayden. Survived by husband William Allen Douglas two children Carrie Brown Harry D Douglas four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She joined the Rebekah and Pocahontas Lodges and the Methodist Church. Known for devoted service at home and to neighbors, she cared for her husband two years and faced illness including kidney disease and heart weakness. She urged faithful work and unselfish help to others in life and memory as a example of service.
