The Home Economics Department met at Mrs. Charles Symons home on Friday afternoon November 12. Mrs. J. E. Prewitt spoke on The Community Kitchen, citing The American Cookery and noting Canadian and Evanston precedents. A Thanksgiving menu was planned and samples were served.
The Friday Club plans a meeting with Mrs. R. H. Lewis at 2231 Broadway Indianapolis tomorrow. The event highlights are scheduled for the upcoming Friday session.

A Plainfield high school program led by Mr. Stevenson featured the P H S Orchestra with four numbers including a trombone quintet and violin duet. Armistice Day observances included talks by three ex servicemen, and a girls basketball season opens with an 8 1 victory over Jamestown. The boys lost a close game to Lizton as the season continues with mixed results and student notices. Sylvia Cooper visited and played piano during intermissions.
The 1920 International Live Stock Exposition runs November 27 to December 4 at Union Stock Yards Chicago. It showcases all livestock breeds with a new grain and roughage display and carload fat cattle hogs and sheep exhibits.
Husbands of Avon Ladies' Aid members acted as hosts at a Thursday evening entertainment in the Avon school building. The event featured a superb supper served by Mr. Tinder of Danville, a Danville Orchestra musical program, and readings by Constance Merritt and S. P. Huron.
Repair work on the bridge across White Lick River, just west of town, has been completed and the structure reopened. Traffic resumed smoothly as crews finished final adjustments and reopened the crossing for local motorists.
The Guernsey Calf Club distributed calves last week to members. Names read include James Stephenson, Richard and Ruth Ashton, Mary and Adrian Parsons Jr., Delbert Hobson, Lawrence Stanley, Joe Parsons, Edgar Parsons, Howard Gibbs, Howard Peacock, Max Little, Lowell Maxwell, LaRue Moon, Mildred Mills, Arthur Marshall Davis Jr., Jessie Peacock, Raymond Hall, and Paul Sellars.
Mrs. Celia Simmons aged 89 years and 10 months died at her daughter's home south of Belleville from general debility. Funeral services were held at the Friends Church conducted by Rev. A. M. Shaw, with burial at Maple Hill. Surviving children include Mrs. Ellen Tilghman WilliamsH. Simmons, Mrs. Nannie Mobley, Mrs. Alex Franklin, Mrs. John Daum and Miss Dana Simmons.
The Friends Church in Plainfield invites all to hear Philip Furnas speak next Sunday at 7 p.m. on current wartime conditions in Servia. He spent over a year there with the Friends Service Committee. Slides will illustrate the talk.
At 9 30 Sunday school urged on time with the best chance for early arrival. 10 30 a sermon on the Divine Forester and Paul’s Secretary. Evening service praised as a good program. Official board meeting at the church next Monday evening to discuss the church year plan.
Sunday school at 9 50 a m with F G Rammel as superintendent. Preaching at 10 20 a m on The Call of God to a Life of Service. Evening service at 7 p m with evangelistic character. Prayer meeting every Wednesday at 7 p m. All welcome to attend or join with us if no church service.
The Symons Hardware Co. moves to its new home the Symons building at the corner of Main and Vine streets, formerly the Lewis building. Stock transfer will take time but new quarters will offer better facilities for larger stock and improved display, benefiting the business.
The residence of Smith Hornaday on North Center Street was badly damaged by a fire Friday afternoon. Fire gained headway before discovery, two hours passed before it was extinguished. Mr and Mrs Charles Tansey residents with Hornaday face loss of wedding suit and unsured furniture, insurance covering part of the house damage. The couple and Mr Hornaday plan to move to the Lewin property on South Vine Street once repairs begin.
The Guilford Township Sunday School Association presents a seven part Thanksgiving pageant by 25 to 35 youths at the opera house on Wednesday evening November 24 after the basketball game. Admission is free and the event aims to provide a pleasant, community Thanksgiving. The venue will be heated for comfort.
Wapeekeewa members hosted a banquet Tuesday evening at the clubhouse with mothers as guests. Menu included fried chicken mashed potatoes oysters pickles coffee ice cream cake and mints. Speeches featured Words of Welcome humorous incidents of childhood and Wapeckeewa ism with toasts by James D. Stephens and Mrs. F. A. Moore.
Miss Okel M. Bly of Dayton Ohio formerly of this place and Guy A. Vorhees of Indianapolis were married in Indianapolis Sunday. Mrs. Vorhees will keep her job with Elder Johnston Company in Dayton.
