Community Chautauqua Coming to Plainfield August

The Plainfield chautauqua runs August 9 to 13 with an all star five day program. Tickets are on sale with adult seats five dollars plus twenty cents tax and children at one dollar ten cents. Lincoln McConnell, Jean Macdonald, the Cecilian Trio, Wilson Day Lyons, William Paxton, and the Circus poetry show headline a diverse lineup.

Winona College Opens Mid-Summer Term With 600 Enrollees

The Wi nona Normal College opened its mid-summer term Tuesday with over 600 pupils. The faculty lists 26 instructors, 13 of whom teach extension courses for Indiana University. Besides the normal course, classes include hygiene and regular university work.

Mothers' Dept Picnic Ends Club Year With Ice Cream

The Mothers' Department picnic at the Friends church campus last Friday offered one hundred ice cream cones and a day of fun for mothers and children. The event marks the annual affair finishing the club year's activities.

Woodward Installed as New Clerk of Henderson County Court

Alvin Woodward, formerly of Clayton and now at the county seat, began duties as clerk of the Hendricks County Circuit Court on Tuesday, succeeding Dr. A. P. W. Bridges.

Health officials plan Plainfield visit by Dr Schweitzer

Dr Ada Schweitzer, director of Indiana Health Board infant and child hygiene, will visit Plainfield on August 13 14 15 to survey local child health needs. A committee of women collects data using a clinical study card while doctors nurses and a dietitian give talks on vision hearing child care and home health. Hendricks County Plans County Fair Prizes At Danville

The Hendricks county council appropriated 1500 for county fair prizes to be held at Danville August 18 and 19. Committees of farmers and breeders oversee preparations as efforts aim to raise premiums to 2500. Shows feature horses cattle sheep swine poultry and pet stock with 400 in the women’s department. Alva Ross chairs the committee with R D Jones as secretary. meetings set July 28 at the courthouse to finalize classifications.

Dozens gathered at the home of Mr and Mrs A W Hornaday to witness their Night Blooming Cereus unfold from a pod like bud into a nine inch diameter flower. The rare bloom opens only one night each year and draws crowds as the centerpiece of the evening.
