Franklin Stores in hands of receiver at Indianapolis

The Franklin Stores Co. owner of a Plainfield store is reported to be under a receiver, unnamed but said to be M. W. Hopkins of the State Life Building in Indianapolis. The receiver has sold grocery stock from several stores while local citizens who bought capital stock last spring split between optimism and concern as the local Plainfield store runs under new management.

Maxwell III in Serious Condition At Edgerton Home

Horace Maxwell III, critically ill for weeks with rheumatism and heart trouble, has been brought to the home of F Edward Edgerton where he remains in serious condition. Mrs. Maria Maxwell is also ill at the Edgerton home.

Community Christmas Tree Planned for Plainfield Area

Local citizens gathered at Friends church to start a Community Christmas Tree effort for Plainfield and nearby areas. An executive committee and sub committees will manage planning, with a large tree to be placed downtown decorated for the season. Needy dinners, children's confections, and a special entertainment are planned, weather permitting in the open or indoors.

The High School Library has been reorganized with the 2 A decimal system. Librarians include Florence Kirkpatrick as head and Mildred Smith June Smith Katharine Hiatt Elizabeth Brewer as assistants. A Dec 15 Friends Church entertainment by the DePauw quartet is planned to boost support for the December program. The Sophomore class Literary Society showcased violin solos readings a piano duet and a playlet with several students contributing.

The December meeting of the Union Home Economics Class met with Mrs. Charles Vestal on a Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. Lilburn Stanley assisted the hostess. A musical program was performed by Mrs. Isaac Atkinson and Mrs. Orlando Atkinson with a girls chorus. Thirty five guests were served Perfection salad and chicken sandwiches. Miss Ruth Dix attended and offered Christmas gift suggestions.
