Proper Feed for Dairy Cows
The guideline states feed the cow as much roughage as she will eat clean and adjust grain to milk output. Restrict roughage only if the cow becomes overfat. A grain ratio is one pound per three pints or pounds of milk daily, or for high producers 40 pounds or more, one to four. An even better rule is one pound grain per pound of weekly butterfat. Feed to the cow's milk response and cut grain if she gains flesh.
