Weather predictions indicate fair skies and slightly warmer temperatures with winds shifting to southeasterly. For Tuesday expect fair conditions and warmer weather.
Plainfield social and church notices include final choir rehearsal at Vincent Chapel, upcoming Christmas entertainments at Hope Chapel and Park Avenue Baptist Church, and lessons at the Y M C A. The grip sweeps many as clerks and residents fall ill while civic events and auctions punctuate the season.
The New Jersey Central Railroad plans a new Baldwin built locomotive in Philadelphia. Expected to surpass any U S locomotive for speed, it will first haul light freight until running smoothly. Later it may pull the faster trains, with a speed test likely between New York and Washington.
Michael Watson of South Second street pleaded not guilty before the City Judge to three counts of illegal liquor selling. He posted 400 bail with his father in law as bondsman. Watson has prior convictions and faces stiff penalties if convicted.
Yesterday observed as Christmas Sunday with varied church programs in Rahway. Crescent Avenue Church hosted joint Sunday School carols and addresses. St Mary’s and Heavenly Rest reported rich services, sermons, and special music. A Park Avenue Baptist event featured a praise service. the Peanut Club dinner highlighted local civic figures and discussions of the Mills bill.
Abraham See of See & Depew insurance died at his Crescent avenue home in his eighty eighth year. A former Philadelphia silk merchant and Phenix Hose volunteer, he later worked as a fire insurer broker and director. Also noted: Rev William Rollinson of Rahway First Baptist died at Elm avenue home. Miss Mary G Stone aged 50. a South Elliott place Brooklyn child. Robert McGinnis aged 63. William Moore 45 at Pond Machine Tool Works. Thomas Parkinson of North Plainfield died aged 59 after long pneumonia illness leaving a widow and ten children.
A horse and buggy stolen from a New Brunswick liveryman on Christmas night was found Saturday morning near Somerville, almost exhausted from furious driving.
