Relay Race Proposed by New Jersey Consul
Dr. G. Carleton Brown of Elizabeth, consul of the New Jersey Division, L. A. W., coordinates with state consuls between New York and Washington for a spring relay race. Two couriers will take positions every ten miles along the border line with similar relays by other states. Messengers start in New York City, cross to New Jersey, and pass messages up to the War Department in Washington, testing relay speed with sturdy riders.

City Council Special Meeting On Peace Street Bonds
A special City Council meeting is set for Wednesday evening to act on the Peace street ordinance and to pass on the Collector's and Treasurer's bonds. A coal train stalled near Netherwood station at ten last night required about fifteen minutes to regain steam before passing the Fanwood cut.

Ministers Debate Rescue Mission for Plainfield
A Reform Hall meeting of Plainfield clergymen and Christian workers discussed launching a Rescue One Mission with headquarters at Reform Hall. Florence Mission delegates explained the project but many ministers doubted its fit, noting existing benevolent bodies and Salvation Army coverage. Tomorrow Wight's Concert at the Casino in New York

Barn Fire Destroys Sanbury Barn Southwest of New Market
A bright southwest light near six last evening triggered a fire alarm from box 47 at the Pond Machine Tool works. Firefighters found a barn owned by Jacob Sanbury about a mile and a half southwest of New Market engulfed, destroying the structure and its contents including a horse two wagons harness hay and grain. The loss was about 1000 with $500 insured and the blaze suspected to be incendiary.

Arm Severed by Moving Train at Elizabethport Station
Frank Hughes of Plainfield widower on Third Street had his right forearm cut off Saturday night while attempting to board a moving train at Elizabethport station. After disembarking in Newark he tried to catch the Plainfield train. his foot slipped, the car ran over his arm, and he was taken to Elizabeth Hospital.

Prominent Elizabeth Clothier Charles Silverstein Dies
Charles Silverstein aged seventy a leading clothing merchant in Elizabeth N J dropped dead from heart trouble while waiting on customers at his Broad street store Saturday evening. He was involved in a large clothing syndicate with branches in many cities and is survived by three sons. No arrests by police over the weekend.
