The victim’s daughter witnessed part of the incident. Coroner Cotes noted hogs had eaten the dead woman’s face. motive undetermined, suspected insanity.
In Louisville on September 18 Judge De Haven presented a resolution at the Constitutional Convention to cut the House from 100 to 60 members and the Senate from 38 to 23, while extending the governor's term to six years.
Charles Miller of Franklin County declines the Prohibition Party nomination for governor. The Prohibition State Committee schedules a September 24 Harrisburg meeting to fill the vacancy. Miller appeared before the Executive Committee and insisted on immediate resignation acceptance. He cites unforeseen circumstances and offers no further reasons. Miller’s ties to Standard Oil are mentioned as a possible factor in the withdrawal.

Two masked men halted a Valley Springs to San Andreas stage about four miles from San Andreas. They robbed eight passengers of roughly 200 dollars and seized a wooden treasure box from Wella, Fargo & Co. A second box was left untouched. The sheriff began pursuit as soon as the stage arrived and the hero helped mobilize the search.
