Gettysburg enters a rain drenched commemorative program as 60,000 veterans gather for the Pennsylvania Day events. Speeches recount battles, a Lutheran Theological College dedication nets 20000 in a 175000 dollar project, and logistics strain under heavy rain. A vast cave-in outside Plymouth undermined about 30 acres owned by the Delaware and Hudson Railroad. The event, felt as a rocker in Wilkes-Barre, killed several mules, disrupted tools, and left about 1,500 miners unemployed as crevices opened across the mine. The body of Miss Anna Mead of Binghamton was recovered near Niagara Falls after she ended her life by leaping into the cataract. The coroner’s inquiry is pressed by her betrothed Rogers, while bruising and head injuries are noted on the body. The death remains a mystery.

William Brill of Hopkinsville shot and killed James Lemon, a Louisville and Nashville Railroad conductor, at Baker's station after Brill refused to pay his fare and was put off the train. Brill fled into the woods following the shooting.
September 11 report states police found no crew to lead to the detection of the woman murdered under a railway arch in White Pel yesterday morning. The victim's body lies in the mortuary awaiting identification.
