A Camden New Jersey marriage notice details the Cavett Hud dell nuptials on August 6. The bride Fanny Murdoch Huddell eloped with John Cavett after a clandestine Philadelphia trip crossing the state line to wed in Camden. Both families recount the surprise and the groom’s plans to start life together.
In Mansfield Valley Pennsylvania on September 10 authorities report the elopement of Robert Bell Justus and Ella Bradley Yates. They married in Jamestown New York after a quick trip from Allegheny City where Miss Yates visited her aunt. Justus, about 23, and Miss Yates, 21, have since kept house in Allegheny. Justus is listed as a Pittsburg city director collector at 77 Fifth Avenue.
Frank Peters a coal-beaver on a wharfboat was struck with a brick by Albert Jackson near Wood Street. Peters suffered a forehead wound reaching the bone but went to Central Station to file a complaint. Jackson was arrested and jailed. witnesses Superintendent Cotton and Purchasing Agent Danks saw the incident.
Alexander McCandless, 14, son of Sheriff A. B. McCandless, drowned while swimming near Lock No. 1. He disappeared after diving beyond his companions. The body, recovered by William Thompson and Robert Smothers near the dam, was taken to the sheriff’s home. A $100 reward was offered for the body’s recovery. The finder, Smothers, had just found his own brother-in-law's body nearby the previous evening.
The Pittsburg Microscopical Society met in Library Hall to hear reports from the Buffalo national convention. C. C. Mellor was elected Treasurer, W. J. Prentiss delivered the Buffalo report, and papers included a lung specimen, sulphate of morphine crystals, and a mouse toe. Dr. C. Q. Jackson spoke on bacteria in ice.
A flurry of notable arrivals and departures fills Pittsburg as Senor Jules dos Bregas of Brazil scouts material for Amazon mining. Thomas W. Osborne dazzles with 151 wpm writing, while General Warner and many officials head to Gettysburg for the exhibit season.
Pittsburg Natatorium Company stockholders led by Fred Goodwyn met at the Fire Marshal office to vote on raising capital to 30000 and approve architect plans for a new building. The increase passed and plans for a pretty building were adopted. A representation and description had appeared in The Dispatch.
The Pennsylvania Railroad reports strong demand for day trips to Gettysburg. Morning special trains carried 50 passengers, the 4:30 train 50, the 7:15 PM train 100, the 8:10 train 200, with additional regular trains throughout the day totaling a full day’s haul.
Chief Brown of the Department of Public Safety reported the smallest visitor count since taking office with 40 arrivals, down from a prior daily average of about 100. He described shifts in visitor types, noting fewer grumblers and more potential job seekers as reorganization and wage declines improved city staffing. He hinted that the Fire Bureau reorganization details remain unresolved for now.
The Frohsinn Singing Society held its stockholders meeting at 305 Penn Avenue to elect directors. The 4 pm start extended to 10 pm as results were tallied amid a full turnout. At about 10 last night at the head of Irwin avenue a horse and buggy with a man and two women rolled down into a ravine. Arrests followed for intoxication as Lieu tenant Lcott and Officer Rhall took all three into custody. Names given were A. McAfee Mary Smith and Lizzie Baker. The horse is severely injured and the buggy wrecked. A thousand dollar check and a four hundred dollar check were found on McAfee's person.
Report states another attempt to wreck a Baltimore and Ohio fast train from Wheeling toward Watsontown Saturday was foiled when the engineer reversed in time. It marks the third such attempt in the area, with the would‑be perpetrators still unseen.
The Italian suspect locals identify as the East End boarding house robber was returned from Philadelphia by Inspector Whitehouse and, after a hearing before Magistrate Hyndman, was committed to jail in default of bail for trial. A Mercy Hospital patient, William Smith, remains critically ill after shooting his wife and himself. Phillips Nimick and Co owners of the Sligo Iron Works on West Carson Street weigh relocation to Connellsville to gain room for expanded output. They cite blocked ground, railroad pressure, and offers of water and cheaper gas as incentives while workers number 400 to 500 and the 1825 plant sits beside Monongahela River routes and rail lines.
Old employes of Allegheny County Light threaten another walkout over wage promises and job allocation. They accuse Keystone Construction of backhanded handling of outside work and claim nonunion labor kept idle amid contract shifts. Union members from Electrical No. 1 vow to strike if their entitlements are denied.
The mub-com committee in charge of the dedication plans a demonstration but the dead labor leader's family objects to brass band accompaniment. Despite objections, the enthusiasm of various organizations is likely to produce a large demonstration.

Representatives of about a dozen hardware firms met at the Hotel Duquesne to discuss forming a trust. Attendees refused to reveal details, but the gathering appears to be part of a broader combination. William Smith, president of the American Flint Glass Workers' Association, returned from Zanesville Ohio where a factory scale arrangement was made after its Monday start.

Frank Otto and F Lamkey appeared before Mayor Pearson after neighbors say they were in a milk wagon that struck James Taylor's 7 year old son on Warner street Sunday August 25. The child was near death but has recovered. Bail set at 500 each for future court appearance.

The preliminary law student examination at the Allegheny County Bar was held last night in Judge Walter Lyon’s office. Subjects included Latin elements United States and English histories English literature logic rhetoric natural science and mathematics. Nineteen candidates competed amid a formal setting with three examiners and varied performance profiles. The results were to be announced this afternoon.
Beginning today the Mail Express from Pittsburg at 1 PM will not connect at Huntingdon with the evening Bedford Springs train. The Altoona special for Bedford passengers arriving to connect with Huntingdon and Broad Top Railroad will be discontinued.
