Mrs Michael McDonald wife of a Chicago politician and sportsman left Chicago July 24 with a priest who disappeared the same day. She arrived at the Fifth Avenue Hotel on Saturday using her maiden name M Noonan and denied elopement while accusing her father in law of making home life unhappy. She said she would stay abroad to work and criticized detectives pursuing her.
Philadelphia dispatch reports ex Speaker Samuel Randall gravely ill with worsening internal hemorrhoids. Physicians say he will likely never regain full health, and family remains unaware of his true condition. A planned trip to Washington may be canceled as doctors monitor his ability to endure political duties.
Albert Falk, a broker of 56 New Street, is jailed at his home on West 126th for larceny. He allegedly persuaded Edward S Percival of 10 Wall Street to invest 700 dollars by claiming he had seen oil and would enter the account with A DeCordova & Co. instead Falk profited and pocketed the funds. He was arraigned at the Tombs and held for examination Friday.
A 16 year old, George Lehnert, died by hanging himself in the House of Refuge on Randall's Island. He had recently faced theft charges, had been in the care of baker George Mindorff at 33 Avenue D, and was sent to the reform school after a guilty plea in General Sessions.
Police, with Inspector Byrnes, net burglars who chloroformed Mrs Mulford and Mrs Ross in Brooklyn last week. John Jennings confessed naming accomplices Charles Deigle and Charles Schmidt, both New York residents. Deigle and Schmidt were arrested in New York. a Elizabeth resident was later charged in correspondence with the gang.
The Potomac Synod of the Reformed Church of the United States convenes in Carlisle Pennsylvania with several hundred delegates and ministers present. Opening sermon delivered by Rev. W. R. B. Deattick, president of the Synod, as the body enters a week long session.
General Boulanger nears France as he lands on Jersey with a party of military followers. A midnight consultation is described as part of his return plan. The voyage across the Channel is noted as very rough and the conspirators meet aboard.
Lowpay October 8. General Boulanger crossed the channel in a small steamer amid a four hour storm that lashed the British Isles. His companion suffered seasickness and a cut to the eyebrow, treated aboard. A telegraph to Jersey for a surgeon was arranged at Guernsey. The pair stayed at Hotel Pomme d’Or with a secretive conference of French officers in mufti continuing at night.
A London engineer, among 250 Iron and Steel Institute guests in Paris, recounts M. Eiffel’s view that a World’s Exposition tower of 1500 to 2000 feet could be built with funding and site choice key. Eiffel may later work with New York parties though no formal agreement yet.

John Huber a Newark shoemaker shot his wife Ellen as she sat at a window 72 Plum Street. He fired from the sidewalk through a lamplit scene, wounding her in the right breast. She was taken to German Hospital. Huber was arrested for felonious assault and has since lived in Brooklyn. It is believed motive was her prior imprisonment of him.
In the Twenty third Senatorial district spanning Herkimer Madison and Otsego six Republican delegates from each county met at Baggs Hotel and balloted 250 times. Titus Sheard Frank Arnold and ex District Attorney Wilson each cast six votes. Delegates planned to stay until election day. Support splits show Herkimer backing Miller Otsego for Platt Madison divided with hopes for Platt or Miller.
Judge Barrett granted an absolute divorce to Lucy W. Train from George Francis Train Jr. The case, heard before referee Royal 8. Crane, found no defense from the husband. It is noted Mrs. Train has her own money and the husband is in business.
A mass meeting of union butchers in New York on October 8 denied accusations by Scanlan Brothers that they planned to blow up the butchers’ building. Resolutions condemned the crime and stated union men were not involved.
New York October 8 Charles B Bishop a leading comedian in E H Southern's Lord Chamley Company died suddenly at the Lyceum Theater just after leaving the stage at the end of the first act. He had suffered days of dyspepsia and was accompanied by his wife Josephine. He collapsed in the corridor and never regained consciousness.
New York October 8 the General Term of the Supreme Court heard an appeal by the New York New Haven and Hartford Railroad in a suit by the people to collect 7000 penalties for using stores in their cars after November 1 1888. The railroad argued the law did not apply if only 26 miles of its line lay in the State and that the act did not cover railroads under 60 miles. The demurrer was overruled on grounds the provision referred to short lines within the State rather than trunk lines.
A major mining deal valued at 2 million dollars closed in St Louis involves New York and London interests. The project covers mines on the Ve Semene vein in Mexico and includes a 100000 acre grant with rich gold silver and copper ledges. Judge U F Ch presided over the closing.

In Rush village near Carbondale Pennsylvania four men in disguise seized David Snyder in front of a hotel and dragged him to a bridge. He says he was whipped severely with his injuries described as lacerations across his flesh. No arrests have been made.

Charles Edmann, 40, lineman for Manhattan Electric Light Company, died after a live wire shocked him at 155 Grand Street.
