Veteran sues McKeesport for promised bounty money
Allen Foster, a Civil War veteran, sues the borough of McKeesport to recover bounty money for reenlistment. He served in Company E, Fourth Pennsylvania Cavalry from 1861 to 1863 and 1863 to 1865, claiming a promised bounty of 100 dollars under an 1880 law allowing veterans to sue for enlistment bounties. The suit notes he demanded payment after discharge and that the borough refused.
