Washington buzzes over General Benjamin F. Tracy likely to become Navy Secretary under Harrison. Palmer feud persists while preparations proceed for the inauguration. Crowds approach 200000 as streets overflow with advance visitors and vendors. Security and logistics tighten amid a flurry of telegraphs and political maneuvering.

Washington report says the Public Printer race centers on Meredith of Chicago and Donath of Pennsylvania. Donath enjoys broad support from Pennsylvania officials including Governor and Senators Quay and Merion, with General Harrison's backing noted.
In Decatur County near the Tennessee river a nine member colored family led by Bud Hynes was drowned when a wagon passed into a swamp after dark. The team plunged into ten feet of water and the mother and seven children perished. three bodies have been recovered.
Harrisburg dispatch reports the State Grange plans further investigations after inauguration into the defeated dressed beef bill. The Grange accuses lawmakers and pledges a postinauguration reckoning, while Secretary Thomas notes 135 House members supported the bill.
Mippietons Conn March 1 The Wesleyan faculty imposed penalties for a washy scrape. Six freshmen were suspended until the end of the term and during study period.
