General Grosvenor resigns the chair and will be succeeded shortly while he becomes Treasury agent to tour Europe for the World's Columbian Exposition paterees.
David Molloy, son of William Molloy, vanished while collecting debts on Monday. A Chinese informant led police to four young men including Patrick Dineen and John Leonard, who were arrested after Molloy reported brutal beating and theft of 1438 dollars and a check. The victim later appeared, claiming amnesia and deafness, as investigators pursued the case with Detectives Rice and Schirmer.

Nearly all Sunday school teachers supported the secession, with many signatures offered for missing members to reach twenty.
The steamer City of Richmond was moved to Hornby dock as burning cotton in the hold produced dense smoke and fumes. Decks were scorched and the crew fought the blaze with only partial success. Reports from Basel indicate a high casualty count of about one hundred fifty dead.
