Early County Jail Structures and 1843 Court House Annex
The text details a sequence of county jails with iron bars and stone steps, noting a small time-walled cellar and limited security. It explains the second jail, annexed to the 1843 court house, was discontinued when the third jail replaced it, and the old jail premises were sold. It estimates the total cost of the first court house and both jails at not more than 25 000 dollars, with fire in 1882 causing loss of some records.
