Boy survives 45 hours in old Benson silver mine
Arthur Fairchild, a 15 year old Brooklyn boy, fell into the Benson silver mine in Westchester near Lake Mohegan. He resurfaced after about 45 hours, describing uncanny bats and snakes as his only companions, and noting a water basin with eyeless fish. Legends say Benson once hid crew and sank the ship bearing the ore.
