Girl 14 Flees Town With 23 Year Old Man
At midnight in Steubenville, Robert Smurthwaite aged 23 ran away with Anna Stephens 14 daughter of James F Stephens. They boarded the eastbound midnight train. They took 460 of her father’s money. Telegrams were sent East to arrest them and Chief Charles N Wood reported the pair have been arrested and will be delivered to authorities.

In Jefferson County, William Acheson sues executors of Brown and Powers for 12796.8 and interest over coal mining leases and royalty nonpayment. Bennett Talbott won a contract to build 550 coke ovens six miles above West Virginia rail line, with work to begin immediately.
