Report notes annual lake trade likely exceeds 22 000 000 tons though exact figures are unsure.

Jan 24 The conference of delegates to the confederation of industrial organizations resumed. It authorized a National Committee consisting of state chairmen to coordinate methods and enforce confederation demands. Bylaws were adopted and the next meeting set for February 22, 1892, with the President free to call additional sessions. B A Humphries elected Vice President. President Ben Terrell denies any empty movement authority.

Jackson held the act void and noted that tendering the tax of 2000 dollars at the required time functioned as obtaining a license, despite State Auditor Norman’s refusal to issue one until court review.

A ranchman named Tom Hetland living west of here is accused of stealing sixty head of cattle from other ranchmen, driving them to Pierre and selling them to butchers. A vigilante committee from Fort Pierre went to his ranch yesterday but found him missing. The raid had mistakenly been blamed on Indians, and ranchers are angry to learn it was a fellow ranchman.
