Mutual Life Gracefully Restores Pelgram Policy Case
The Mutual Life Insurance Company of New York announces an exceptional action in the Pelgram case of Paterson New Jersey. Pelgram, holder of a 15000 policy taken September 14 1874, paid annual premiums for thirteen years but lapsed when a fourth premium fell due as he lay dying. The company suspended its rules and restored the policy after the attorney argued the hardship and the policy’s forfeiture would deprive the wife of rightful coverage. The action is presented as grace and a warning against harsh forfeitures in life insurance.
