Harrisburg staff dispatch reports the Appropriations Committee approved 16 000 for Allegheny General Hospital maintenance for two years and 25 000 for Pittsburg Homeopathic Hospital maintenance for two years. A deficiency appropriation of 22 38 is recommended for the Pittsburg hospital.
Coroner McDowell arrived in Harrisburg to promote the public morgue bill. A companion measure by Mr. Marland was rejected in the House as of January 24.

Hartford reports Colonel Jacob Green announcing that Joseph A. Moore, Indianapolis agent for the Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance Company, has defrauded about $500,000. The crime involved loans, interest, and rents misrepresented as repayments from borrowers, with Moore leveraging trusted status since 1873 to conceal thefts until now.
A prominent Indianapolis financier Joseph A Moore faces a $400 000 default. Once a trusted banker and vestryman at St Pauls Episcopal Church he reported serious financial trouble with the Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance Company. Moore owns Tanglewood villa and had extended it to General son for rest.
Still tied up in Charleston as Republicans push old rules while Democrats resist. Joint ballots show Kenna close to caucus nomination with 29 votes, one absences, and Carr promising support. Kenna reelection hopes rise with Democrats caucusing and adjournment pending Monday.

John Wanamaker arrived in Philadelphia aboard the limited express with Mrs Harrison and Mrs McKee en route to New York for a shopping and sightseeing visit. JPATOR Indiana January 24 One of 77 men indicted by the United States grand jury for violating the election law is J J Walker of Adams county. He was jailed in Danville three months and released October 31 claiming Danville as home and voting there despite a challenge. State Senator Carpenter facing possible removal has been indicted and denies bribing anyone, saying he never saw the alleged bribe partner.
In New York on January 24 Judge Patterson heard Dudley’s $25,000 damages suit against the New York Times World Evening Post and Commercial Advertiser over the blocks of five letter claimed to be by Dudley. Motion to vacate examination order postponed for a week after Colonel Bliss filed it.
Arthur Brin Sell supervisor of bridges buildings and water stations on B and O Railroad fourth division was hit by an engine on Water street this afternoon and probably fatally injured. A leading Mason and Republican State Committee member, he has worked for the railroad for twenty five years.
