Million Gift Upsets Pittsburg Charities From Miss Holmes Will

A forgotten will clause bequeathing residual estate to Pittsburg charities has yielded a surprising rise in gifts. Miss Jane Holmes died in 1885, leaving 300000 for public institutions. After court action and asset sales, total value rose to about 1107052, with proceeds boosting many charities to double bequests. Several institutions receive 100000 instead of 50000, and a final third distribution may follow. Indians and other groups gain from the residuary trust while some boards still await completion. The executors expect further proceeds as remaining assets are sold.
