The 53 year old, nearly six foot financier plans a seven month world tour visiting Australia, Bombay, Burma, Hong Kong and more. He is worth about 40 million dollars and has 2 million invested with Chinese merchants in America. He criticizes the unequal treaty and predicts a possible boycott of American goods.
Miss Lillie Bodmeyer, 15, in Steelton, reportedly in a trance for nearly three weeks. Physicians and others tested her condition and concluded the trance was nervous irritation from excitement. rest and isolation were advised.
A gas company drill at Potts farm near Litchfield becomes stuck and reveals a bloodstained drill and rope. Sam Warner, head driller, frees the gear after an hour and discovers the grisly evidence leading to the tale of a mule named Tom killed in the mine.
The Central Labor Union in New York adjourned after a heated row between factions. A Socialist delegate was punched, bloodied, and fled to the platform as blows followed, prompting the chairman to suspend the session.
Somerset Kentucky reports Henry Worley arrested for the December 8 1888 murder of Troxtile. Eleven suspects were tried before the body surfaced, confirming the homicide as Worley and others used a blunt instrument.
In New Orleans on February 17 the suits against concessionaires of the Mexican International Improvement Lottery are said not to affect the lottery as incorporated under Mexican law and currently operating successfully.

Joseph Dailey aged 19 a school teacher living near Atchison Kansas visited his sweetheart in Kansas City yesterday. After a quarrel and drinking he shot himself in a hotel room at about 2 AM and died at 10 o'clock.
Mrs Maggie Page was arrested in Barre Montana on February 17 for poisoning her husband John Page and forcing her daughter to claim the father took poison himself. The daughter failed to maintain the lie and a coroner's jury returned a verdict against Mr Page.
A seven to fourteen story Gothic Owens block on Dearborn and Adams collapsed late morning as four upper floors and roof remained. About 120 workers were employed. Sunday reduced to a dozen present and escaped injury. The ruin left three tower stories and roof standing with interior tile and iron girders, contractor crews survey the wreck.
Columbus February 17 There is talk of publishing a sensational report in a Sunday paper about Mrs Church testimony and a claimed confession by Teresa Scherzinger the church cook. She says Rev Eis coerced her into signing the confession and threatened to ruin her family if she did not, then sent her home before she made a formal affidavit.
Charles Perkins of Rochester died at 55 from heart disease after a brief illness. A famed sporting man, he backed pugilist Heenan and Ryan in notable fights, enjoyed games of chance, and followed the Grand Circuit trotters. He leaves a wife and son George of Minneapolis.
Deputy U S Marshal Willis and Judge Peden of St Clair county reached Springfield in custody after a dramatic fox drive. Peden, one of two judges jailed last year for refusing to order a railroad tax levy, fled on a white mule before being intercepted and finally captured amid a chase with four shots fired. He is jailed locally and critical of the federal government.
Mrs. Hanna Simpkins filed for divorce and alimony from William Simpkins in Niles Ohio, claiming extreme cruelty. The couple has 15 children. Simpkins is described as the village’s wealthiest man after a 35 year marriage.
Reports from San Francisco and Melbourne detail German efforts to impose police control in Apia and threaten firearms seizure. Captain Mullan of the US Navy objects, while Captain Fritze seeks German authority. Klein, an American, evades capture aboard the Nipsic and is later moved toward Tutuila. Australian and British reactions condemn German actions and urge protection of Samoa’s autonomy.
Editorials in Australian and New Zealand papers denounce German actions in Samoa and condemn British naval impotence. They insist Britain must uphold Samoa’s independence while awaiting Zealandia’s March 16 mail, as Admiral Kimberly moves Trenton Vandalia toward Apia to restore rights of American citizens.
In Milan last night Sheriff seized Olive E. Friend William E. Howard Emily Howard Gus Halstead and George Halstead arrested on three New York indictments for obtaining money under false pretenses. Warrants issued February 1 by Michigan Governor. They are jailed without bail awaiting transfer to New York. Howard warned of a bigger sensation there.
Louise Schroeder of 1514 Avenue A faced Justice Murray in Harlem Court for excise law violation. She testified she sold whisky to Detective Dugan this morning, refused to plead not guilty, posted 100 dollar bail, and received praise for her honesty upon leaving.
The Chicago Irish American societies council voted to revive the St. Patrick's Day parade this year after debate. Proponents argue the event restores public display of the green flag while detractors urged funds go to Parnell. The parade is planned for Sunday.
Boston February 17 The Massachusetts Club marked Lincoln's birthday with a banquet led by ex Governor Claflin. About 40 members attended with guests of honor Charles Bonney of Chicago and J M Langston of Virginia ex Minister to Liberia. Langston spoke on Lincoln's impact on the colored race.
In Washington on February 17 the President announces he needs a interruption free week to handle pending business before his term ends. He will not receive callers during this period to focus on official matters.
Louisville February 17 suit filed in the name of the State of Rentoces against Manes of the Western Union Telegraph Company seeking 8500 dollars penalty for failure to report company property for taxation.
Private homes to house about 800 delegates as Prohibitionists meet in Harrisburg to push a constitutional amendment banning liquor. John Fulton slated to lead a campaign while Senator Rutan forecasts a rousing, fractured convention and Democrats weigh support or retreat on the amendment.
Louisvill e Ky February 17 John Wells returned to his Three Springs home in Hart county. After a public dance insult sparked a road confrontation with Bill Clymer who fired a buckshot at Wells. The buckshot killed the horse but glanced off Wells when it struck a deck of cards in his breast pocket. Both men discharged guns and fled as a blood feud is described.
Special telegram from Lewisville Kentucky reports a young farmer Joe Byron eloped with Cyrus Alley’s daughter near Quingsville. Alley, forbidding the match, left home with only an old calico dress to prevent the elopement but the couple rode 15 miles to Owenville where she received proper clothing and they were married.
