Morton’s Laurels and Hurdle Thrills At Pinehurst Meet

A Pinehurst week of horse events features Miss Helen Morton of Chicago dominating hurdles and side saddle jumping, with close finishes at Hats and Rex in the ladies purse. The Wednesday meet showcases Whymark on Gatherer winning the thoroughbred sprint as a dramatic steeplechase ends in a crash and near tragedy, while C A Shepard sweeps Friday harness races. Dixie’s great battle in the 2.24 trot caps a day of intense racing action.

Hamilton’s Banner Wins Tin Whistle Flag Contest

In the fourteenth annual Tin Whistle Club flag contest on February 21 at the number two golf course, Louis A. Hamilton of Garden City carried the banner 170 yards beyond the 20th tee to win by W. T. Barr from Marine and Field. W. E. Truesdell followed, with C. F. Lancaster the only other to finish the full course. In second class James Barber of Englewood led, finishing a hole ahead of H. P. Hotchkins, with N. D. Clark of Woodbridge the other finisher.
