Ross Wins Keen Golf Match 1 Up on Championship Course
Donald Ross edged Willie Wilson 1 up after a tight contest on the championship course last Tuesday. Wilson faded from 4 down during the round as both finished in the low 70s. Massachusetts open champion George Bowden arrived to play Southern Open events before turning pro at Hamilton Golf Club in Cincinnati. Bowden tied for best rating among Massachusetts pros with Lou Tellier and John Cowan, and noted Mike Braily will visit for upcoming events. Burke Golf Co. sales manager W. Sherwood promoted the Grand Prize ball in Pinehurst, offering a hole in one prize box to any player in 1921, first benefiting Major Harold Porter. Exhibition matches drew crowds, including Herron–Pownes pairings, Whittemore–Parson vs Herron–Fownes, and two professional matches with Bowden and Emmet French defeating Mothersele and Sherwood, and Calloway and Capello beating Howe and Silva one up.
