Not All Their Own Way Travis Wins In Big Golf Tourney
W J Travis, the amateur champion, survives a tight finish to defeat W C Fownes Jr two up in the final of the big inauguration tournament. McCammon of Chevy Chase surprised many by not reaching the runner-up medals, while John Moller Jr and John Ward exited in the semi finals. The match drew a large crowd at the Club House as Fownes rallied from four down with five to go, making a dramatic comeback before Travis clinched the title.

Brilliant Ending Inauguration Golf Tournament Ends With Medal Play
The inauguration golf tournament concluded in an eighteen hole medal play handicap with over fifty players. M C Work of the Country Club of Philadelphia won the best net score with 76, tied for second on 77 was F J Bailey of Kearsarge Golf Club. C B Fownes and O McCammon tied for best gross 80, McCammon winning playoff. Walter J Travis carded 85 plus six handicap for 91 net amid windier conditions.
