Paylorville fire robs school and dwelling of insured losses
Leonard Tufts reports a blaze at Paylorville destroying a school building and residence. Insurance covered both structures and most contents, which included books, oil paintings, clothing, and household goods. The list includes Paradise Lost volumes, encyclopedias, poetry, Bibles, teabags, and other items, with paintings valued at about 25 each for the subjects. The preacher, a Lincoln and Biddle student, is linked to the losses and painters via destroyed materials. The event occurred February 23, 1910, with notes on auction-like interest from a book collector and a future prize event by Mrs. St John Smith.
