News in brief lists social gatherings at Holly Inn and Village Hall next week including euchre, prayer meetings, whist parties, concerts, and dances. It notes Shaw University concert, a color show summary, and a Pinehurst poems reprint. A fire from Clark’s block in Southern Pines caused major losses.
A quiet celebration at the Holly Inn included souvenir menu cards and a pleasing orchestra program. The dinner menu lists cavier canapes consomme scalloped dishes and multiple meats with sides and desserts, followed by a musical program conducted by Trey Sharp including Sousa Overture Washington Post and The Stars and Stripes Forever.
Last Sunday began with holy communion at 8 a m in the small room of the Village Hall led by Rev. Mr. Prescott. An 11 o’clock Episcopal service drew a large crowd, with Rev. P M Prescott of Washington preaching. Sunday school at noon was well attended, followed by 3 45 pm Christian union sermon by Rev. C M Emery and a solo by Mr. St Clair. Prayer and praise at 7 15 pm led by Mr. J M Robinson.
