Wetteaf Wins Midwinter Handicap at Pinehurst shoot
The Midwinter Trapshooting Tournament at Pinehurst featured 180 shooters under favorable weather. William Wettleaf of Nichols Iowa won the Midwinter Handicap after a tense shoot-off from 21 yards, finishing 96, with A Bogert Sandusky Ohio and P E Willey Dansville N Y close behind. The Eastern team dominated the 450 target race with 2 195 points against 2 151 for the West, and Duncan Livingstone took the 18-yard Prelim Handicap with 96 earning 150 dollars. The event highlighted steady shooting from Frank S Wright Buffalo and noted figures like Lieut John Phillip Sousa who posted strong scores for the Navy team.
