Pinehurst Village in Moore County North Carolina

Pinehurst, a Yankee Village in Moore County North Carolina, founded 1895 by James W. Tufts, features fifty cottages, several hotels, a grand hotel complex, the Carolina, Holly Inn, Berkshire, and The Harvard, plus a Casino, cafes, and numerous public buildings. The Pinehurst Golf Links, two courses with a 6000 yard eighteen and a nine hole layout, boast a top class club house and a Scotch pro for lessons. A 30000 acre shooting preserve, kennels, croquet, tennis, bowling, billiards, and full village services including electric power, telephones, library, school, and market gardens mark it as a self contained resort community. Visitors can reach via electric railroad and rail lines with access from New York and Washington, eight teen hours from New York by train. The village refuses admission to consumptives.
