Melos Tops the Timbers in Pinehurst Track Showdowns
A long chase at Pinehurst on December 18 featured Melos, ridden by Diamond, overtaking Poran and the Little Horn in a dramatic two mile steeplechase. Abden faded to third as Melos tied up the finish in a historic meet by the Jockey Club. Nat Hurd rode Genevieve to a faultless win in the guests event, while Front Royal led a memorable mile and a sixteenth race with a dramatic late surge. The day also showcased Uncle Sam in a strong five-eighths race and a tense junior pacing final won by Maud Tero amid crowd frenzy and starter interventions.
