Christmas Eve in Cave of Confederate Deserters
In 1864 65 near a wife of a deserter and her twin daughters two men hid with a group of Confederate deserters in a cave. The woman bravely fed them kept watch and feared discovery as they discussed the war’s end. After surrender and occupation, deserters reemerged in Raleigh where a Federal soldier identified one man.
