Pinehurst Nurseries and its diverse plant collection
Otto Katzenstein recalls Pinehurst nurseries built on poor soil aided by landscape design and irrigation. Native and foreign species were propagated by cuttings, division, and seed. Notable plants include beargrass, gallberry, dogwood, sassafras, magnolias, and various Japanese and Chinese shrubs. The collection highlights include Japanese barberry and privets with a large display of evergreen oaks and trailers.
