A special Pickens County Democratic Executive Committee meeting declined a recount request by E. I'. Looper in the county supervisor race. McKinney was declared the nominee. official county votes for state officers and state senate results are listed.
Mrs Addie Mauldin died at her daughter Mrs Frank Mauldin in Liberty on September 17 after months of illness. She was 65, born in Anderson County near Slabtown, daughter of Jacob and Martha Picklet. She left a husband and eight children and one sister, with rites at home and burial in Kennemore ground.
Miss Fannie Belle Martin of Central married First Lieutenant Roswell Curtis Long U S A at the bride’s parents home on Thursday September 20 at 4 o’clock. The ceremony took place in the living room with immediate relatives present. The couple left for an extended northern trip and will reside in Columbia where Lieut Long is stationed.
List of colored men to be inducted and leave Pickens at 11 30 a m September 26 for Camp Sevier Greenville. Names include Daniel Brown Elihue Banks Jones Brazeale Frank Lemons Clarence Blair Richard Oglesby Kirskine Reid Lawrence Lewis James T Gowan Leonard Gambrell David Thompson Larry Boggs Winslow Brown and 1918 registrants Rufus Sullivan Elmer Ferguson Ralph Barton Kate Chapman Cornelius Downs Ulysses Nash Sy McDow Liberty residents and more material.
The Twelve Mile River Association will hold a two day union meeting with King's Grove Baptist church on September 28 and 29, 1918. Activities include devotional services, sermons by Rev. Abercrombie and Rev. Murphree, and a series of theological queries led by local pastors. The Hurricane Township Singing convention is invited to join.
The program outlines a two day union meeting of the Pickens association at Pleasant Grove Church on Saturday and Sunday September 28 and 29. Activities include devotional exercises by Ar M Simmons J R Connelly E L Ridgine J E Foster and others, sermons by Rev Willis and Rev Ridgine, discussions on the spiritual condition of the churches and on education and Sunday school work, with a night sermon to be announced.
The Boy Scout organization agrees with Liberty Loan to operate under local committee direction as a national body shuns child labor in bond selling. The Treasury opposes using children, boys or girls, in bond selling, so Scouts are registered for service under local designation. Routinel months available for $1.00.
A large Liberty Loan rally takes place in Pickens on Saturday evening September 28 at 8 o clock. A jazz band from Camp Sevier will perform unique music and Hon. M L Bonham will speak as the day’s orator. Patriotic tableaux and songs accompany the event. Admission is free to all. Come.
Government officials urge workers on a stated non essential list to switch to war productive tasks. The memo warns classifications may change without notice and lists industries such as auto accessories, drivers of pleasure cars, bath and barber shops, bottlers, florists, and more. Community Labor Board chaired by Hapgood with Hill and Chastain noted.

An examination for teachers will be held in the court house Saturday October 5. All applicants must be at least ten years of age. Examinations will begin at 9 oclock a.m. By order of State Board of Education KR Hallam Superintendent of Education.

At Peters Creek 26 men aged 18 to 45 registered on the 12th to support the United States in the war effort. Residents discuss voting for candidates, local visits by residents, and plans for the Pickens county sinemie convention at Mt Tabor church. A Peters Creek schoolhouse debate on mathematics vs English ended with a negative verdict.
The Pant-Compton tent meeting began in Pickens last Monday night with enormous audiences attending each service. Rev Vr Compton and Mr Fant delivered effective preaching while Prof Day, choir leader, gave splendid leadership.
