Pickens Debate Team Competes in Triangular Clash
South Carolina Debating League round saw Seneca Westminister and Pickens field two teams each on neutral ground. Westminster won on both sides. Pickens won the affirmative but lost the negative. Seneca lost both. Beattie Simmons and Clarence Bowen were Pickens reps at Seneca. Milledge Griffin and Richard Hallam Jr. at Westminster.

Preliminary Ornatorical Contest Held At Grammar School
The annual preliminary contest for grammar school students was held Friday with eager participants. Judges included Mrs. Garrison Wyatt, J. L. D. Vickery, and J. H. Simmons. Winners: Park er Edens and Lucile Suther led the boys and girls divisions respectively. District 2 prelims set for April 6 in Peters Creek area.

Men to Enter Army From Pickens County
Six men will be sent to the Army from Pickens county next Tuesday April 2. Nine men are ordered to appear at Pickens at 2 o clock April 1 for training camp, three as alternates. Also noted a Seneca citizen died Saturday morning after brief illness. wife and three children survive.

Pickens Chapter Red Cross Notes 1918
The Pickens County American Red Cross notes thanks from soldiers abroad and local groups. James Powell of the 86th Infantry writes appreciation for gifts in a land of strange language. The Wickens County Chapter received 9.00 from Southern Power Co, aiding Red Cross, with almost 2000 total raised. The Colored Auxiliary sent a Master will and care packages to Camp Jackson troupes with Bibles pads and toiletries.

Girl Scout Troops Organized with New Officers
Two Girl Scout patrols were organized this month. Captain Mrs L C Thornley and Lieutenant Miss Inez Morris named. First Patrol leaders Rosamond Lynn and Mary Lallum with Emily Thornley and Nannie Morris as corporals. Scouts will meet at the school house until a scout room is ready and more girls are hoped to join.

Death of Young Girl Miss Bessie Townsend
Miss Bessie Townsend, 17, died March 23 at the home of her uncle and aunt Mr and Abs J F Puckett in Six Mile from consumption. Funeral services were held at the home the next day by Rev Jo J Davis and burial followed at Mt Zion Central.
