Central high school drew the largest crowd ever seen at last Friday night’s Mock Wedding staged by the U D C. Rev J C Bailey preached at the Presbyterian church. The ceremony featured Mies J Ramseur as bride and Dr Williams as groom with a full wedding party and a large audience.

The three months old child of Mr and Mrs Bryant Slatton of Easley Mill No2 Liberty died Thursday February 28 from severe burns. While the parents worked in the mill the nurse left for water and a fire flashed up igniting the clothing. The infant died within hours. Funeral conducted by Rev J O Burnett.

Officers uncovered what Ben LaBoon calls the most complete illicit distillery seen, about three miles below Liberty last Friday. Dave Vaughn, a supposed deserter from Camp Sevier, was arrested for involvement. Hidden in a hillside room, the site yielded a copper still, beer, whiskey, and a dug well, with a second still captured near Mayfield's bridge that week.

Sarah Jane McWhorter died at her home four miles south of Liberty on Sunday after months of illness. She was aged about eighty, born September 11, 18—, daughter of Jeremiah and Jane McWhorter. She married Samuel Cherry McWhorter in West Virginia and had nine children, eight of whom survived. She was life member of Carmel Wesleyan church. The funeral was led by Rev. John C. Dailew.
