Pickens Man Granted New Trial by South Carolina High Court
The South Carolina Supreme Court issued opinions on forty seven cases this afternoon. It ruled that the Clarendon county section annexed to Sumter county must follow the majority vote for annexation. James W. C. James of Pickens, convicted of manslaughter in 1920, was granted a new trial due to being removed from the courtroom during self defense charges. The jury had retired and was brought back with James in jail, affecting the proceedings. The court also sustained the lower court in the Tully Babb case relating to prohibition law compliance and new trial requests.
