Mrs. W R McKinney died at home in the Kastatee section of Pickens county on Saturday January 27 after a brief illness from a ruptured blood vessel in the head. Funeral at Cross Roads church with Rev S M Jones. Born Brevard North Carolina July 8 1889 she joined Brevard Baptist church at fourteen and married W R McKinney September 1 1915. Survived by husband father two brothers and one sister. Distantly linked to B N Glazener a Cross Roads leader. Epidemic grip and pneumonia reported in the county.

Reverend A S Whitmire died at his son LL A Whitmire's home in Pleasant Grove Pickens County Friday after a long illness. He was 78 and a Confederate veteran, funeral at Ooleney Church conducted by Rev J E Foster. Survived by wife Rebecca Trotter, three daughters and two sons. Burial followed at Peters Creek. Church and Sunday school worker most of his life.

Easley Tragedy A Rail Fatality Near Easley
Easley correspondent reports Isaac Walters a Black resident of a farm near Easley found dead on a railroad track one mile east of town in the early hours of Friday. Skulll fractured and fingers severed as he reportedly drank whiskey from the express office before sitting on a cross tie and grabbing the rail, fate unclear which train caused the blow. Also noted are the death of J J Sammons near Greenville and mention of Congressman Finley of South Carolina's Fifth district residing in York.
