Large Crowd Attends Pickens Political Rally Saturday
An estimated 600 to 1500 attendees filled Pickens court house grove on Saturday to hear W A Stucky of Bishopville Congressman Fred I Dominick Cole L Blease and J T Thackston of Spartanburg speak. Stucky touted economic reform education rural credits and a platform filing law while Dominick defended wartime votes and district loyalty. Blease attacked rivals and urged support for an end to the war with an honorable peace, drawing loud cheers. Thackston spoke on agriculture as crowds dwindled after Blease’s closing remarks.

Death of Mr Nix J Len Nix 62 in Liberty
Mr Nix died at his home near Liberty on Friday August 24 after weeks of suffering. He leaves a wife seven sons and two daughters and was 62. A member of Enon Baptist church he was laid to rest at Bethlehem with funeral by the writer. The family thanks neighbors and friends for their kindness during their hour of need. Liberty August 27 1917.

Death of Benson Gilstrap in Liberty
Benson Gilstrap died on the morning of August 15 at age twenty four. The Death Angel visited his home leaving a wife and two small children and many relatives and friends to mourn. Funeral services were held the next day by Rev. Bb. I. Murphree at Bethlehem Church.
Mrs. Nelson of Pickens County Dies at 62
Mrs. T. I. Nelson widow of Rev T. I. Nelson died at her Pickens county home on August 12 1917 aged 62. She married Mebuftie Rampey earlier and was active in church life joining the Baptist church after her second marriage. Pellagra was given as the cause of death. Supt B. J. Johnston notes her death as a moral reminder. Van Clayton offers two Berea College scholarships for Pickens county youths. applications should see Prof. Clayton at the courthouse.
