Pickens County Contests Set in Easley This Week
The Pickens county high school oratorical and athletic association plans contests in Easley this week. Friday night the oratorical contest occurs at the Easley school auditorium and Saturday the track meet takes place at the Easley baseball park. Last year Colie Seaborn of Pickens won the oratorical title and Central high school led the track meet. Ossie V. Hunt, born in Pickens county, recently moved from traveling for R. E. Allen & Bros to Mountain City Milling Co of Greenville.

Anderson Man Dies After Pelagia Illness at 68
Mr Perry Looper died at his Anderson home last Wednesday afternoon from Pelagia. He was 68, a Confederate veteran, blind for years, and son of the late Jeremiah Looper of Pickens county. He leaves a wife and several children. burial was at Silver Brook Cemetery. His brother Frank Looper of Pickens County was at his bedside.

Greenville District Conference Holds Three Day Session
The Greenville district conference encompassing Greenville Pickens and parts of Anderson and Laurens met for three days in Pickens. Bishop Kilgo could not attend. Rev. P. F. Kilgo led sessions with 80 delegates. Committees reported a healthy district and plans to evangelize unoccupied areas in Pickens Greenville and Spartanburg counties. A memorial to preserve the South Carolina conference’s unity passed decisively. George C. Hodges and Prof. R O Lawton attended, and three men C R White A M Doggett J F Lupo were licensed to preach. Norris church appeal raised over 90 dollars.

Captain W B Allgood of Pickens receives notice of a May 5 train stop at Easley for United Confederate Veterans veterans heading to Jacksonville. A deadhead coach from Atlanta will be opened at Central Easley to carry veterans, with Greenville handling on the daylight special leaving at 7 2 a.m. May 5.

Twenty five high school declaimers from across the state competed in Clinton. Greenville High School student Brown Mahon won first place, H B Evans of Woodruff took second, Baxter Weaver of Dillon placed third. Colie Seaborn represented Pickens and finished fourth. Melvin Cothran 15 Dies After Illness Leaves Notes
The son of Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Cothran died Friday April 3 after a two week illness at age fifteen. He was buried Sunday at Golden Grove cemetery. A devout Christian, Melvin left loving messages for friends and comforting words for his parents as they grieved.
