Progressive Clean-Up Effort Tops Pickens Mill Village
Last week in March was observed as clean-up week in Pickens Mill Village with widespread participation and a community gathering on March 31 in the school auditorium. Students performed on the theme Community Sanitation and Health as Prof. Hallum and Rev. Hodges spoke on civic rights and education. Roses were awarded and two hundred well rooted plants distributed as prizes while judges weighed yard cleanliness and trash piles. a long list of residents named as Clean Yards and Trash Piles finalists.

Death of Mrs Mary Jane Durham near Six Mile
Mrs Mary Jane Durham wife of the late J A Durham died at her Six Mile home March 13 after a lingering illness at age 66 years 10 months. She leaves twelve children nine living including Mrs Josephine Norris and J P Durham and J V Durham. She is buried at Six Mile church March 14 with services by Rev Stringfield and was a devout Christian and loving mother.
