On March 1 neighbor and friend R B Lumpkin was stricken with pneumonia. He died on March 9 around 4 PM and was buried at Mile Creek cemetery where he supervised the Sunday school. Revs W C Seabern and Fulton Childress conducted the funeral as friends mourned his benevolence and faith.
The Piedmont Inter-High School Athletic and Oratorical Association schedules its annual meet in Greenville for Friday night and Saturday, April 3 and 4. Speakers include Jay Gaines of Liberty, Osborne Williams of Easley, Willie Austin of Seneca, Pritchars Payseur of Westminster, Raynor Lehr of Furman Fitting School, Henry Roland of Central, Dakyns Stover of Greenville, John Doe of Richland, Jerome Beck of Anderson, and judges H. K. Osborne S. M. Wolfe and Walter M. Scott. The cup for first place comes from Jefferson Powder Company, currently held by Valhalla. medals go to top finishers.
Pickens county received 1400 from the state for rural graded schools to be distributed among Zion Farrs Dacusville Gates Coleney Montvale and twelve other districts next school year. The legislature funded grants for districts that vote a four mill levy to establish rural graded schools.
Ruth Bouchillon ten year old from Tribble Street Anderson South Carolina writes to a liquor house asking them to quit sending letters to her father. She urges the sender to stop and cites the Bible condemning drink and worldly gains. She says the letters are burned and prays the sender will change.
Farmers report red clay roads improving and express desire for a road scrape soon. Willis Glenn, a respected elder, dies at his Liberia home on March 6. Baxter Summey of Brevard visits his sister Mrs. L A Cisson last week. Mrs. A T Fortner shows gradual recovery from two weeks of critical illness. Misses Lillie Essie and Ethel Fortner return from Greenville. Annie May Fortner ill with pneumonia fever but recovering. Fleet Crago returns to J P Anders farm after moving to Greenville last fall.
J E Medlin and Alonzo Edens returned from Oconee County where they surveyed a tract for Medlin. Medlin found his father sick and learned from J Mat Murphy in Oconee that Murphy’s grain crop is good and cotton yield may reach two bales per acre. Medlin reports Murphy teaching a singing class as well. He also visited brother W S Medlin in Ebenezer Oconee County, noting a thriving cabbage crop.

Liberty area residents hosted relatives and friends from Greenville Athens Clemson Pickens and Gainesville. Notable visits included Mrs Ione Strickland returning from Atlanta and Will Richbourg hosting guests from Athens Clemson and Clemson students Joe and Mell Hunter visiting relatives.
Pickens county announces boys may join the corn club this year by sending names to T A Bowen farm demonstrator or R T Hallam superintendent of education Pickens 8 C. Teachers with lists should submit them, and girls may join the tomato club by sending their names.
Mrs Ben Hendricks expresses gratitude through The Sentinel to all who aided her in securing votes for the beautiful player piano giveaway. She extends sincere thanks to every supporter who voted.
