Jury Law Knocked Out by State Supreme Court Ruling
The State Supreme Court sustained Judge Gary in ruling that the jury law of 1900 is unconstitutional. Case Queen et al. v. State arose from Cherokee county. Queen and others, convicted in June 1901 of riot and assault with intent to kill. The court held the act must be uniform statewide and include listing and drawing of jurors, invalidating the law as a general provision. It marks a total knockout for the jury law and a major victory for attorney J W Speer.
