Palomas Survey Details on Eighty Mile Rail Route

The Gulf Rio Grande and Pacific Railway engineers completed the location of the line from Juarez to Palomas last Saturday. A salute and cheers marked support from locals in Columbus and Palomas as the locomotives moved, showing the plan to cross arid plains and five mesas with minimal grading. Led by Engineer Patrick, the party reached the old Deming Sierra and Pacific grade intersection, then camped at springs. Col. Masten praised the route as favorable. a southward push will resume, with hopes for a 100 mile reach by early June. The line is described as light in grading, with limited curvature, and overwhelmingly welcomed by Mexican authorities and American promoters.
