William J. Calhoun, special commissioner, resumed work in New York after touring Cuba May 20 to June 14 in the Ruiz death case. He said no direct proof of assault existed and a detailed report is due to General Lee in Washington. He declined to discuss conclusions until the report is public. Osborn noted courteous treatment in Cuba and Calhoun planned to travel to Washington the next day.

Oxrrrespen Arizona June 8 1897 reports a peaceful thriving community with a day school led by Miss Stephens a flourishing Sunday school and a Christian Hadesver Society. The note urges unity beyond party lines favors silver and a return to the standard before 1873.
On June 7 the new Los Angeles mining exchange opened with sixty two thousand shares traded mainly desert mines of Southern California. Large crowd present. exchange managers report heavy demand and strong impressions from the historical milestone.
