Tatum Seen Near Border

Elusive fugitive Jack Tatum, 27, who escaped from Maricopa County Jail in Phoenix during a mid-town gun battle in which two men died, was reportedly spotted near the San Diego border area. FBI agents were dispatched to the border and a San Diego County highway check was established to aid the effort. Tatum had escaped Saturday as two fellow jailbreakers were killed and two surrendered. he had earlier escaped from Minden, Nevada jail.

VA to deduct debts from veterans insurance dividend

The Veterans Administration said veterans who were overpaid on subsistence allowances under the GI bill and those overpaid on pensions and other benefits will see deductions from next year's National Service Life Insurance dividends. About 600,000 veterans owe roughly 70 million dollars. the agency expects 2.8 billion in payments to 16 million veterans beginning mid January.
