Navy witnesses told the House Armed Services Committee that the Air Force B-36 bomber is obsolescent and highly vulnerable to radar and fighter intercepts. Navy speakers cited radar detection at 250 miles, six propellers as a radar target, and ease of downing the bomber by day or night fighters. They warned Russian jets threaten intercontinental bombing, urging revolutionary engine or bomber advances to avoid catastrophic losses. Additional Navy testimony, including Adm Blandy, was planned for tomorrow.
